GPSmap 276Cx Firmware update
Re: GPSmap 276Cx Firmware update
In "Koppel mobiel tst.", telefoon koppelen, gaat vanzelf.
Iemand een idee?

Re: GPSmap 276Cx Firmware update

Re: GPSmap 276Cx Firmware update
I noticed a new bug on 5.10, which is not present on 4.80.
The indicator for north direction is only visible, when as page layout "Full Screen Map" or "Map With Overlay" is used.
When "1 Column (Large)" or "1 Column (Small) is used, the indicator is covered at the top by the box which shows during routing when you see your next turn by turn.
In 4.80, the indicator is a little bit lower and before that box and visible.

Re: GPSmap 276Cx Firmware update
Yes, I see what you mean.
I however never use the guidance text line nor track-up map orientation and didn't yet notice this error.
Let's hope for quick repair of these and other issues in stead of discovering more of such unintended faults.
p.s. Do you understand written dutch language? In that case I can answer in 'nederlands' next time.

No, I can't read or write in dutch, but google translate works excelent and I can read every answer just fine here
I found again a new bug. This is ridiculous, the firmware is full of bugs.
Just start a route navigation and press Quit button and the device powers off.
In order to trigger that, you need to have Altimeter page enabled, as it's the first one, which would be shown, when button Quit is pressed.
You can trigger that also by pressing multiple times Page button. If no route is enabled for navigation, the device does not power off and the Altimeter page is shown.
So basically, with firmware 5.10, the Altimeter page is unusable during active routing.
@All: I really hope, that you all could report that to Garmin as well, as the german support is pretty bad and doesn't seem always to take the bugs for serious..

Re: GPSmap 276Cx Firmware update
Vandaag onderstaand bericht aan Garmin gezonden (rubriek "ideas").
Concerns GPSMap 276Cx - New errors with software version 5.10
- The option to select a map does not appear any longer in below situation:
Button Find / select Addresses / Enter / Menu /
Now there's only the option "Clear" but the previous option "Select Map" has gone.
- In the GPS screen, the field GPS accuray now shows a decimal value (e.g. before 9 m, now 8.9 m), however this data now does not fully fit in it's field (not properly aligned), the "m" (for meter) falls outside the field border.
- The "North" indicator on the map screen is hidden by the "guidance text bar". Earlier the indicator was located below this text bar.
- When the Altimeter page is ON (in Setup) and a route activated then pressing the Quit or Page button (to select the Altimeter page) causes the device to switch off upon selection of the Altimeter page. Thus the Altimeter page is unusable during active routing.
Some examples of earlier errors which are still present:
- During start-up a message appears "Loading complete. Touch the screen to continue". Funny because the 276Cx does not have a touch-screen.
edit201023: It seems this message has been erased from later production series onwards.
- Setup Altimeter; when selecting plot-type “Barometric Pressure” the “Ambient Pressure” remains displayed (and set?) as selected option.
- When simulating driving a route, then “Stop Navigation” and “Resume Navigation”, the route is redrawn, and the location-indicator jumps back to the start of the route.
Route simulation does not continue upon selecting "Resume Navigation".
The same behaviour occurs when switching power OFF/ON.
- Setup page-layout in Marine mode; choose '2 columns with compass', then move the location-cursor. The text size in the field that now appears on top-left of the map screen is too large. It collides with the E (or W) co-ordinate.
- The data field 'Compass Heading' remains active even when the 'Auto Compass' is dis-abled.
Should it not be off as well?
- Interface = 'Garmin spanner' Find / Extra / Select any custom POI / Enter, now connect the set with the PC via USB-cable, question shows up 'Go to Mass Storage? Yes / No' and the program hangs up.
En dan is het weer afwachten welke verrassingen er zullen volgen.

Re: GPSmap 276Cx Firmware update
Thanks, the list sounds good
May I ask a question: Can you reproduce the shutdown with Altimeter page? Because I have a person with 5.10, where is does not crash, but only for this person. Another person has the crash, same as I have. I really hope, that Garmin will fix that bugs.. I am not sure, if they will do on such "old" device

Re: GPSmap 276Cx Firmware update
Yes, my apparatus does switch off, in Automotive Mode as well as in Marine Mode.
Also when scrolling pages in the opposite direction, using the Page button.
But I can switch it on again in the normal way, pressing the ON button. No need to remove the battery.
I sent my list under the chapter "Marine", hoping that will draw more attention.

Re: GPSmap 276Cx Firmware update
I just found out, that the main cause for this altimeter shutdown is a specific setting.
2x Menu button -> Setup -> Altimeter -> Plot Type.
The setting "Elevation / Distance" is the one, which makes the device shutdown upon opening the Altimeter page.
If I choose a different setting, the Altimeter page does not crash.

Re: GPSmap 276Cx Firmware update
Klopt, hier hetzelfde.

Re: GPSmap 276Cx Firmware update
Yep, I also prefer to use the option, that's why I noticed it first.
I did today replied to my garmin ticket and added that extra information.
Let's really hope, that the german garmin support will forward everything.

Re: GPSmap 276Cx Firmware update
My set does crash, tried it several times with different CUSTOM-POI's, with GPS-ON and OFF, with inserting USB cable first at Cx side and first at PC side. The program crashes at the moment when the pop-up screen "Go to Mass Storage? Yes / No" appears (the backlight setting is still adjusted, visible in case the intensity for battery use and external power use was set at different levels). Then I must remove/re-insert battery to restart the Cx.
In this testing process I found another 'switch off' (not a 'crash' as above) which looks similar to the one you discovered around Altimeter.
Try as follows:
[Find] / Select Cities (or any other MAP-POI) / [Enter] / Select a city / [Enter] / [Page] / [Quit] (or several times [Page]). The set switches OFF but I can restart with [ON].
Can you reproduce this one?
This makes me think about a program error which is somehow connected to the Page and Quit operation in various situations.
There seem to exist bugs which appear during less frequently used operations / circumstances.
