Vandaag bij een BMW-motordealer gevraagd naar wat zij te bieden hadden voor op mijn 1150GS. "Nu even niets want er gaan binnenkort hele mooie dingen op de markt komen. Ik mag er nog niets over zeggen maar ik wil je nu niet de Navigator II verkopen want het is veelbelovend. Je merkt het vanzelf".

Iemand enig idee?

De navigator II is de 2610.

Inmiddels is er de 2720. En dat wordt dan natuurlijk de navigator III...

Als dat alles is... Hij kondigde echt aan: "hele bijzondere ontwikkelingen die nog geheim zijn".

Ik wacht eerlijk gezegd op een Streetpilot/Perfectpilot met SIRF-chip. Op welke termijn kan ik die in Moordrecht komen ophalen?

Ik een bericht van m'n BMW dealer werd verteld dat de "navigator 2 plus" er is, wat neerkomt op de navigator 2, maar dan met 2GB flash.

Klopt, die was er al een tijdje. Was mogelijk een beetje een reactie op 'onze' 2Gb. Maar de geluiden rond de Nav III herken ik wel. Zal ook wel moeten: vanwege de veranderingen in US-milieuwetgeving mag de 2610 niet meer geproduceerd worden (wat er nog is, is voorraad), hetzelfde zal voor de Nav II gelden. Dus, tenzij andere geluiden: de Nav-III = 2720.

Munich. Although the revised version of the BMW Motorrad Navigators II plus, available as from April 2006, appears to have changed only insignificantly, it will indeed offer additional features. Thanks to high-end technology, the Navigator III offers even more convenience of operation and the possibility of communicating whilst riding a motorbike. A fast processor, a high-definition TFT monitor, a satellite receiver with excellent reception and a built-in Bluetooth interface raise the BMW Motorrad Navigator III to the very latest level of state-of-the-art technology.

A highly efficient satellite receiver, which will obtain data reliably even in areas offering only a very restricted reception (street canyons, wooded areas etc.), ensures most accurate positioning. A remarkably fast processor speeds up route preparation and the now three-dimensional map representation. With 454x240 pixels, the TFT (Thin Film Transistor) monitor now offers an even clearer picture quality with better contrast and can be easily read even in strong sunlight.

Storage of map data for the whole of Europe is integrated into the system, pre-installed and ready for use after initial activation. There is additional storage space of around 500 MB. The enhanced map data corresponds to version 8 of the latest MapSource City Navigator Europe NT. The system now comes with respective software on DVD, facilitating simple route preparation on the PC.

The user interface, the design of which has deliberately been kept simple, supports simple navigation through the menu functions. Four new buttons of the Advanced Mount Cradle have been added to the touchscreen still supplied, thereby offering convenience of operation whilst on the road: A unique highlight in the field of portable navigation is the Text-to-Speech function. These voice commands render the navigation system even safer and easier to use.

The Bluetooth interface featured in this system for the first time poses the significant advantage of wireless communication and safe navigation. With the communication system integrated into the BMW System Helmet, the WCS-1, all voice commands given by the navigator can be transmitted wirelessly to the rider's helmet. The intercom link between two WCS-1 helmets remains connected even after the navigation command has ended. The operation of a Bluetooth-compatible cellphone via the BMW Motorrad Navigator III is still possible. Incoming and outgoing calls are shown on the monitor display. Respective telephone numbers can be dialled via the touchscreen.

And it doesn't end there. The tracklog function has been increased from 2,000 to 10,000 points and can also be configured. If required, the distance covered is recorded according to an adjustable time or distance parameter.

Like its predecessor, the new system will, of course, also feature a compass function and a pre-installed address book listing BMW Motorrad dealers.

The revised version will be presented to the public for the first time at the 2006 trade fair in Dortmund, sporting the imprint "BMW Motorrad Navigator III" on its petrol-resistant, splash-proof housing.

Basis = SP2720, maar met BT. Er wordt niet gesproken over de optie van verkeersinfo, zoals de SP2720 die wel heeft. Verder de gebruikelijke verschillen zoals we die bij Nav II vs. SP2610 zagen: kompasroos, BMW dealer waypoints en extra coating tegen brandstofspatten.

Aha! Dat van die bluetooth is toch wel nieuw: is het ze uiteindelijk dus tòch gelukt!

Over die tracklog: zoals elders te lezen: in de actuele beta-versie van de firmware voor de 2720 is de tracklog ook verhoogd naar 10.000 punten!.

Betekent die verhoging naar 10.000 punten dat er nu meer overeenkomsten zijn tussen de 2720 en de 276? Aangezien de 276 vanwege zijn trackmogelijkheden de voorkeur geniet bij offroad rijden?

Als ze er nu ook een trackback functie aan hebben toegevoegd, en lock to road kunnen uitschakelen dan wel.

De 2720 komt langzaam wel steeds hoger op mijn lijstje, maar oa het gebrek aan een Accu weegt toch wel zwaar. Ik merk dat ik mijn 276c vaker op de accu gebruik als dat ik hem aan de stroom hang.

Ja en nee. Belangrijkste voordeel van deze verhoging is dat je nu ook met de 2720 meerdere tourdagen achteraf kunt uitlezen in mapsource.

De 2720 is echter nog steeds minder geschikt voor het gebruik van een track als route-basis. M.a.w.: voor off-road routes.

Ook al is de log verhoofd: voor de all c.q. off-roader blijft de 276 de meest logische keuze.
